On January 8, 1919, Alberto Braniff made the first flight in 19 seconds in a Voisin Airplane, using as a runway or airstrip the Balbuena Plains in Mexico City which were leveled and prepared by a battalion of sapper men and who took almost two months in filling the holes and leveling the grounds for  Mr. Braniff’s amazing first flight. The plane was a biplane "Voisin", with an 50 H.P. E.N.V engine. Alberto Braniff was the first mexican pilot and achieved the first flight in South America.
Every January 8, the air family in Mexico celebrate the anniversary of this historical flight.
